about us

Siel Bleu Ireland is a social enterprise and charity who deliver life enhancing exercise programmes to older adults and people living with chronic disease.

Founded in 2010, Siel Bleu Ireland now delivers their programmes to over 4,500 people across 20 counties and employs 23 members of staff. Siel Bleu Ireland, while a separate entity, shares the concept of its programme with the Siel Bleu Association, who have over 21 years of experience working with older adults across Europe. The Siel Bleu Association works with 140,000 beneficiaries each week across four countries.

benefits of exercise

Exercise is the most affordable and accessible wonder drug and is good for us no matter what age we are! However, some people believe that due to ageing, they are unable to participate in physical activity, however, Siel Bleu firmly believes that this is not the case.

Keeping fit as we age is of greater importance as we age as numerous studies show that staying fit staves off the “effects of ageing”. Some of the benefits of exercise for older people include:

  1. Better Balance and Flexibility.
  2. Improved brain health.
  3. Extended Life.
  4. Robust Bones.
  5. Improved Heart Health.

Don’t let your age be a barrier, get out there and work up a sweat. You’ll feel the benefit every day and for years to come!

i can campaign

There is no such word as ‘can’t’ in Siel Bleu Ireland’s lexicon of life. We have seen for ourselves how a positive mental attitude and exercise can transform the lives of people battling chronic illness or slowing down with age. ‘I Can’, our first ever awareness campaign, is not just about shouting from the rooftops about how exercise and activity for the elderly can change lives.

We have living proof in the extraordinary feats our incredible champions undertake each day. Exercise classes for seniors, COPD workouts with specialised chair exercise routines, and stroke workouts are just some of our tailored programmes.

‘I Can’ is about empowerment and taking back control of your own body and movements. With over 4,500 people currently attending classes nationwide, Siel Bleu Ireland want to encourage even more people to join our quiet revolution and make exercise part of their lives. Siel Bleu exercise classes are happening across the country in nursing homes, community centre settings, private homes and organisations like The Men’s Sheds, COPD Support Ireland , and IHF Stroke Survivor Groups. The classes are the first specific effort to promote exercise among older adults and patient groups in Ireland, with the aim of improving overall health and wellbeing.
